Meeting of the minds Tuesday! A small group of Science teachers from all the secondary schools and one elementary school met this week to collaborate and design new performance tasks for the various content areas. It was a very successful day and I look forward to getting another group of teachers together to begin working on our next steps toward NGSS.
Whew! I can't believe the first month has already flown by. Adjusting to a new position and work space has been interesting for all, but I think we now have a handle on our goals and responsibilities. The first month was spent assisting teachers learn new software, like School Loop and Illuminate, as well as reflecting on the CDT work we completed this summer. As usual, not everything was done perfect the first time, so we are having another CDT meeting on 9/22 to revamp the performance tasks for all content areas. I need a representative from each area, so you don't get stuck with something I created with my limited knowledge. As well as assisting teachers, I have been researching everything NGSS related and getting to know the layout of the standards, so I can help you navigate and plan with them when you are ready to begin implementing them in your classroom. I look forward to working with all the Science teachers this year and improving our instructional practices to help foster an inquiry-based approach to learning the content.
