To whom it may concern,
Last week I was lucky to have been able to attend the UCI training over ancient Egypt. My morning started off terrible. I battled 2:15 minutes of traffic on four freeways on a trip that reports as 42 minutes with no traffic. Stuck in traffic and cursing the world, I swore I would never attend one of these again unless the training was life changing… The training was phenomenal. The two ladies who walked us through their Egypt unit were knowledgeable and explained their rational thoroughly. We received colored handouts on all of their material, but also a digital set that could be manipulated. The ladies presented great Common Core strategies that were based on textual reading, group discussion, and then a writing piece. I do not think I will run the unit like it was presented, but the text given and the basic outlines were great and I know how to manipulate them into my own classroom dynamics. The best part of the training was a visit from an Egyptologist. She led a question based lecture on Queen Hatshepsut that was an amazing experience I bet I won’t get again. At the end of the day I was pleading with my TOSA to invite me to the next, and all of the rest of the UCI trainings. A little 2 hour morning traffic was somehow well worth the experience.
